Deal: Staples Offers $50.00 Off New Printer – Wants Your Trade-In

Staples $50.00 Printer Trade-In Credit

Staples Brick And Mortar Store

You must take your old printer into a Staples store for the trade-in credit.

Always a good idea to recycle, and Staples is giving customers $50.00 off any printer of $199 or more with the trade-in of an old printer.  This deal can net some really good prices on printers if you look hard enough.  The only drawback is you have to make it to the store (with old printer) in person.  You CAN place the order online, pick-up at the store and have the credit issued, but you have to take the printer to the brick and mortar store.

Staples offers $50.00 off a $199 or more printer with trade in.

What makes this an even better deal is the existence of $25.00-off-$75.00, or $25.00-off-$100.00 coupons that Staples regularly sends out in the mail.   If you are looking for a coupon, check eBay – they are on there all the time. At $50.00 (credit) for a used printer (working or not), we might have to hit Goodwill and pick up a clunker.

Deal Check: Newegg $149 Epson Stylus Photo 1400 Received Epson Stylus Photo 1400

We post deals, and we also take advantage of them.

We have received our $153.00 (total with shipping) Epson Stylus Photo 1400 inkjet printer from and wanted to post come pictures of the unit as a comparison to the refurbished Epson Stylus Photo 1400 we got a couple of weeks ago.  These large format Epson printers crack the $200.00 barrier every few years, and the individual cartridge design makes this printer a great candidate for a CIS system.  Epson inkjet printers produce the absolute best photo prints on the market and at $149 for the printer this purchase was a no-brainer.  Unboxing photos below.

Retail vs. Refurbished Box:

The box our refurbished 1400 printer came in was huge, and is about twice the size of a retail packaged printer of the same model.

Items Included:

A full set of ink cartridges, driver software, CD-printing tray, as well as a full version of Adobe Photoshop Elements v6.0 on DVD for both Apple Mac OS X, AND Windows XP; the program alone will run you $119.99 retail (for each Mac/PC version).  Very nice bonus extra with this printer.

The Epson Stylus Photo 1400 is sealed up tight in packaging which features a neat plastic bag with handles to make removing the printer from the box very easy. The printer is quite heavy, but this is to be expected considering the size.

Another beauty shot:

Now we look inside:

In contrast to the refurbished version, the retail version shows no signs of use on the print head.

Insides are perfect, and the printer has that “new car” smell.

And another of the inside.

Great Deal, Getting A Workout:

Overall a great deal for $153.00 including shipping.  Thanks for the super deal.  We are printing 13×19 posters as fast as we can on the refurbished model and the quality is outstanding!

The price at has risen to the full retail price of $299, however as we posted earlier, the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 can be had at staples for $199.

Deal: Epson Stylus Photo 1400 – $149

Large Format Printing Goodness:

Note 5-6-09: Check out our un-boxing of this deal (now expired) here. has the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 inkjet printer for a low $153.00 including shipping.  We love this printer, and when combined with a CIS system it is a can’t miss deal for graphic designers.  It will print 13×19 large format prints as well as smaller sizes. Good for scrapbookers, designers, screen printers, or anyone who wants to print large format images.  The printer uses 6 individual ink cartridges (T079 series inks).

Newegg site says $199 – Use coupon code:

Use coupon code EMCLRNW44 for a $50.00 discount.  A full set of inks for this printer will run you around $118.00, and contain 11ml of ink each.  Click image for direct link.

This is by far the most inexpensive large format printer we have seen in a while.  We ordered (and posted photos) of a refurbished version we ordered and received last week.  This looks like the full retail version with the pretty box – not much difference otherwise.

Update 5-6-09: ran out, or got wise, as the price is now $249.99.  We received our Stylus Photo 1400 and posted pictures here.

UnBoxed: Refurbished Epson Stylus Photo 1400

Refurbished Epson Stylus Photo 1400 $53.01

We blogged about this last week, and we were lucky enough to score a refurbished Epson Stylus Photo 1400 for only $159.  We posted here that they were available on the Epson web site for about 24 hrs, and we will continue to update that post if we see them again.

The box was gigantic, and must have cost a fortune to ship.  How Epson can afford free shipping on something like this is beyond us.  Maybe it has something to do with the fact that a full set of cartridges for this printer will run you a cool $113.94 (no joke).

Included accessories:

Software bundle – included.

We were surprised to see a copy of Photoshop Elements 6.o for both Mac and PC included with the printer.  Epson states on their website that refurbished printers might not include 3rd party bundled software:

Refurbished products may or may not contain a media pack or the same software package as new models

Glad to see it was included. Both Mac and PC versions on the same CD.

This printer is huge.

The printer is gigantic (has to be to handle 13 x 19 paper sizes).  Our printer looked brand new; no scratches on the casing, and no outside indications of past use.

We put an Epson Stylus C120 on top of the 1400 for comparison:

CD printing.

The Epson Stylus Photo 1400 also supports printing on CDs.  The CD printing tray is very large – about the size of an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper.

Looks brand new.

The inside of the printer looked brand new.  No signs of any use.

6-Color photo printing

Looking where the cartridges will go, and while there are some traces of color from ink cartridges, the nozzles were dry to the touch. Six color cartridges are used with this printer.

Very clean inside.

Looking inside the printer it is very clean.

Under the printhead.

We moved the printhead out of the way so we could see what the underneath looked like.  Again, spotless.

Built-in power cord.

This is actually nice.  The power cord is not removable which means we can’t ever lose it.

USB port.

Why Epson, and most other printer manufacturers, does not include a USB cable for their printers remains a mystery.

Excellent deal!

Very pleased with our refurbished purchase for $159.00.  We sold the overpriced Epson brand ink for $65.00, as well as the included  Photoshop Elements for $40.00, so net price for the printer is $53.01.  Not bad for a printer that costs $300.00 new, and is available now on the Epson web site for $249.00 after instant rebate.  We plan to use a CIS system which will run about $100.00.

If you are looking for a low cost solution to large format printing, the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 is a solid choice (if you can find one).  This printer has popped up on the Epson clearance site twice in the last week, only to be sold out quickly each time, so make sure to check often if you are trying to pick one up.

You can buy one new for $249.99, or try to score a refurb when and if they are restocked at the Epson store.

Deal: Epson Stylus Photo 1400 Refurb $159.00

Update 12-18-09 – You can get this printer for $189 new from Amazon.

Update 4-17-09 Out of Stock.

Update 4-15-09 2AM CST, they are in stock.

Large Format Inkjet Printing = Awesome

We saw this over the weekend, and before we had a chance to order one (or post this) Epson ran out of stock. The Epson Stylus Photo 1400 inkjet printer was $159.00 after $20.00 instant rebate.  That is a savings of over $140.00 over newepson1400 printer price from Epson.  With the same 1-Year warranty as a brand new one, the Epson refurbished 1400 is one heck of a deal.

This 6-color photo printer is great for turning 6mp images or higher into beautiful 13×19 “posters”. This is the cheapest large format printer Epson offers, and as a bonus it only has 6 inkjet cartridges.  Note to artists; if you sell your printed work, you might want to stick with Epson OEM cartridges, but for the rest of us this is a great opportunity to snag a large format printer for a very cheap price.  $159.00 is a steal.

Sold Out? – Not Quite!

Looks like this baby sold out fast is currently in stock, but if you need something to replace that aging Epson Stylus Photo 1280 or 1270, this is an awesome deal. We love the 13×19 inch printing, and with a CIS ink system, this printer could be a recreational photog’s dream.  At $159 delivered, this is even nicer.

Epson R1400 vs. R1900

The Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and the R1800 are very similar.  Click here for a list of the differences. Personally we like the Stylus Photo 1400 better since it only uses 6 inks and produces a great photo, we think this is plenty.  We expect to see the R1900 (or equivalent) at the same price in about a year or two.

Spotted, but gone for now.

We post this only as a sighting – they are out of stock at the moment looks like they have more in stock.  If you are interested experimenting with larger paper sizes and different specialty papers bookmark that page.  That is the first time we have spotted them @ $159.00 for a refurb.  Certainly we will see them again?  Our bookmark list grows even larger.  We will update this post and move to top of front page if we see it again.

In stock now, the Epson Stylus Photo 1400.
